[TBC Big Road Race 1988 Contents] ■In addition to the 500cc class, there are also international entries in the TT-F1 and 250cc classes!
The TBC Big Road Race is held every year, inviting spectacular members from the World Grand Prix. From this year, the event was held as the All-Japan Championship. Michael Doohan entered TT-F1 as Yamaha's ace. He will face off against Yoshimura's Doug Pollen. John Kocinski, the treasured son of Kenny Roberts, who debuted in the Japanese Grand Prix at the age of 20 and has also appeared in the All-Japan series, entered in the 250cc category. The showdown with Toshihiko Homma is attracting a lot of attention. The 500cc GP riders were Eddie Lawson, Christian Sarron, Tadahiko Taira and Shunji Yashiro. On race day, the 500cc race was held in delicate conditions as it rained in Sugo, which had been fine and sunny up to that point. It rained again just before the start of the race, and while the bikes were fitted with cut slicks and slicks respectively, Lawson decided to stay on slicks for the race. Lawson took the holeshot, but started to lag far behind on the second lap. Shunji Yashiro, who temporarily dropped to 12th position due to a course out, moved into the upper group and took the top position. A few laps later, however, Tadahiko Taira took the lead, with Sarron close behind, looking for a chance to win.
